5 Hot Bar Openings this Month

Spring is firmly in the air by now, and with the scent of blooming flowers there’s just a hint of booze. That’s because new bars are popping up around Shanghai as always, lucky for us! Here are some we’ve been keeping our eye on.

CAFÉ DES STAIGAIRES

Oh yes, the biggest, baddest Stag of the bunch just opened at Found158. If you’ve haven’t heard about it by now you either just arrived in Shanghai or you hate having fun. Their official opening party this past weekend had the entire block looking like a rock concert. French food, drinks and fun, what’s not to love?

DRY GOODS

Okay okay, this isn’t a new opening, but so what, it’s great and still low key enough that you can enjoy an evening out drinking without bumping into 1000 people and waiting for seats. This quasi-speakeasy has big strong cocktails, fun prohibition-era décor, and maybe even some hip-hop music.

WOODEN BOX

After a month closed for renovations, Wooden Box is up and running again with awesome drinks and live shows. This Qing Hai Lu jazz joint has been part of the nightlife landscape here for the last 6 years, and are revamped and ready for the next 6

WONDERLAND

The name of this bar certainly fits the atmosphere, as you might guess from photos, Wonderland takes its inspiration from Alice in Wonderland. It’s an awe-inspiring venue filled with child-like imagination. From the drinks to the vivid artwork to the chairs, worth a visit for sure.

EZ5

This swanky jazz bar might remind you a lot of JZ and Cotton club, but don’t mistake them for a rip-off. Their brand began in Taiwan in the early 90’s and their first Shanghai venue closely follows that original mold. Tucked in a spacious 2nd floor venue alongside Goose Island and Hard Rock, this is a perfect place for a glass of whiskey and some live music.
